Institute of Behavioral Science
The term Institute of behavioral science is often confused with the term social sciences. Though these two broad areas are interrelated and study systematic processes of behavior, they differ on their level of scientific analysis of various dimensions of behavior. Thus the Institute of Behavioral Science essentially focuses on the investigation of the decision processes and communication strategies within and between organisms in a social system i.e. fields like psychology, social sciences and neuroscience among others.
Institute of Behavioral science includes two broad categories: Neural-Decision Sciences and Social-Communication Sciences. These involve disciplines, which primarily deal with the decision processes and individual functioning used in the survival of organism in a social environment, which include psychology, cognitive science, organization theory, psychobiology, management science, operational research, social neuroscience and social psychology.
Forensic Behavioral Science is an emerging field with an interface of human services and criminal justice system, which focuses on a range of disciplines like psychology, psychiatry, nursing, criminology, law and ethics, social work etc.
The mission of the Institute of Behavioral Science is to impart education and to undertake research in clinical and forensic areas and also to provide the highest caliber in diagnostics, psycho-legal consultation to referral sources (clinicians, attorneys, the Courts, social service and criminal justice agencies etc.) and treatment and rehabilitation to clients.
Institute of Behavioral Science is staffed with highly experienced mental health professionals, educational, rehabilitation professionals and cognitive neuroscientists, who provide a wide range of services in education, research and development, clinical and forensic areas.
The institute has started Post Graduate Diploma in Forensic Psychology from current academic year (2009-2010). This course has been developed and designed to enhance the knowledge and professional skills of students to work with persons displaying antisocial and criminal behavior. The program addresses both assessment and management issues. It will help to incorporate best practice principles into daily work practices.
The institute has engaged eminent experts as faculty and intends to start post doctoral/doctoral/ postgraduate degree/diploma/ certificate courses in important areas viz. investigative psychology, suspect detection, lie detection, psychological profiling, cyber psychology etc. The courses will be open to students and in-service personnel.
Highly technically skilled and renowned experts are on our faculty to take care of teaching and research programs. The admissions are open to students and research scholars. The University is looking forward to collaborations with Institutes, Universities, Industries and others to achieve its objectives.

DR. S.L. VAYA. P.hd; DM & S.P. is a Qualified Clinical Psychologist of National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, with an work experience as Clinical Psychologist at Kasturba Medical College Hospital Manipal, (S.K), Victoria Hospital, Bangalore Medical College Bangalore, B. M. Institute of Mental Health Ahmedabad, Gujarat and Hospital for Mental Health Ahmedabad, Gujarat of eight years. Non -officiating member of State Mental Health Authority, Government of Gujarat for one term of four years, Member, Licensing Subcommittee of Licensing Authority of Mental Health Act, 1987, Government of Gujarat for two terms i.e., eight years. Also, appointed as visiting clinical psychologist to sabarmati central prison, reconciliatory to family courts and legal services department.
Worked as Assistant Director at lie detector division, Forensic Science Laboratory, Gujarat for fifteen years from 1984 and was instrumental in starting Forensic Psychology division in India. Worked as Deputy Director at Forensic Science Laboratory, Ahmedabad and Directorate of Forensic Science (DFS), Gandhinagar, for nine years from August 1999 before being promoted as Additional director, Directorate of Forensic Sciences, Gandhinagar from April 2007 till date.
Number of National and International institutes, colleges and universities invited for conducting workshop and as guest faculty including NIMHANS, Bangalore.
Invited as guest faculty to National Judicial Academy, Bhopal, National Police Academy, Hyderabad, CBI Academy, Ghaziabad, National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Sciences, MHA New Delhi, Department of Law, University of Jammu, Gujarat Judicial Academy, and Karai Police Academy, Gujarat. Invited by BRITISH PSYCHOLOGICAL SOCIETY IN JULY 2008 for presentation in a workshop on “Indian scenario in Polygraph and brain electrical oscillation signature profiling tests”. Assisted Chief Forensic Scientist, MHA, New Delhi as invited guest speaker in various awareness programs conducted all over India and in All India Forensic Science conferences on investigative aspects of forensic psychology.
Recognized as PhD guide at Gujarat Vidyapeet for Psychiatric Social Work, recognized as PhD guide in clinical and forensic psychology at Nirma University and Recognized PhD guide in Behavioral Science and Forensic Science at Gujarat Forensic Sciences University. Deputy Prime ministers award was conferred by Shri.L.K.Advani for best practices in forensic sciences and forensic psychology in 2004. Invited by Shri Shivaraj Patil Union home minister for presentation at BPR&D for VVIPS on Advanced technologies of forensic hypnosis, polygraphy and brain fingerprinting. Amity University & AIIMS in SAFCON, 2008 honored with “excellence Award” for best practices in forensic science.
Principal Investigator of the project entitled "National Resource Center for Forensic Psychology" sanctioned by DFS, MHA, Government of India. Project In charge: A TIFAC project under department of science and technology on "normative data for brain electrical activation signature profiling."
Appeared in number of courts as expert witness in polygraph examination, psychological profiling, BEOS and Narcoanalysis in Gujarat, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Gaziabad (U.P), Ranchi, (Bihar) Indore (Madhya Pradesh), and CBI courts. By qualification and training, a professional clinical psychologist and by experience a Forensic Psychologist and by innovation and expertise a Forensic Expert.
