Education through Investigation

Infrastructural Facilities

The Institute of Behavioral Science has ultra-modern campus with green & eco-friendly atmosphere having all the high class facilities, seminar hall, well equipped laboratories and a learning resource center. Institute has an auditorium with capacity of 60 with wi-fi and multimedia facilities. The Institute coordinates conferences and meetings for official University functions and academic colloquium from time to time. It administers University policies concerning the use of University resources by external organizations and groups.

IBS has unique Neuropsychology – Forensic Psychology laboratory with multiple facilities for electrophysiological (EEG and ERP) experiments and all IBS students are provided with the opportunity in learning, recording and conducting EEG and ERP experiment and computer analyses of the electrophysiological date in the frequency-time domains. They are also trained in Brain Electrical Oscillations Signature (BEOS) profiling for extracting information from memory (autobiographic memory) and polygraphs for deception detection. There is immense scope for developing knowledge base into specific forensic problems and that can be achieved only through higher levels of research. The institute has following physical and laboratory facilities:

  • High speed internet with Wi-Fi facilities.
  • Class room equipped with modern audio visual facilities.
  • Computer Laboratory for Students.
  • Buddha Psychological Service Center (BPSC).
  • Brain Electrical Oscillation Signature (B.E.O.S) Profiling Laboratory.
  • Neuro and Forensic Psychology Laboratory (NFPL).
    • EEG/ERP Lab-16/32 Channels
    • Neuropsychological Assessment Lab
    • Neurofeedback Lab
    • Neurofeedback Lab

Institute also provides separate hygienic drinking water system with RO Plant and separate toiletry system for girls and boys on each floor. The Institute has elevator facility for physically disabled persons.

1. Brain Electrical Oscillations Signature Profiling (B.E.O.S) NSS-BEOS system is a new technology developed in India for measuring neural processes of remembrance. Recording presence of remembrance using multichannel EEG and cued by specific probes reveal the presence of experiential knowledge in a person, which can be used as aid for further forensic investigations. The subject is not expected to give any oral or behavioral response to the probes presented.  Sets of probes are used for self-validation, for testing different forensic formulations, including the suspect’s or accused person’s narration.  The test provides automatic analyses and report generation.
2. E-Prime Stimulus Presentation Software Utilised mainly for behavioural research with user-friendly experiment creation, response collection, intuitive data analysis, virtual reality environments. Also, the fMRI research ensemble includes hardware and software products for effective functional imaging research. Moreover, it supplements Eye Tracking Research too.
3. Brain Function Therapy (BFT)-(Two Laptops with accessories) Brain Function Therapy provides computerized cognitive retraining program for patients with Traumatic Brain Injury, Learning Disabilities, Autism, ADHD, etc.
4. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS Statistics Base) Utilised for statistical analysis of behavioural data, neurocognitive data and data which require statistical comparisons.
5. 128 Channel EEG Systems (One Desktop with accessories) This system is a non-invasive technique and it measures neurocognitive processing. For studying the neural effects of hypnosis, alcohol and drug addiction. Equipped with complete frequency analysis and source localization programs.
6. NSS Systems (EEG Systems-64 Channel) Neuro Signature Systems a technique for recording and interpreting the electrical activity of the brain during cognitive and behavioural tasks.  It measures processes in the interviewee’s brain to detect presence of experiential knowledge of an event. It helps investigators providing them first-hand information from the memory of a person to help understand if sh/e was involved in a particular crime/incident, or if they were just witness to it.
7. 20 Channel BESS (Brain Electrical Scan Systems) EEG/ERP Systems (One Laptop & One Desktop with accessories) Brain Electrical Scan System is a highly sophisticated EEG-ERP system that acquires processes and analyses bioelectrical activity within the brain. It is widely meant for clinical and diagnostic usage. The transient electric potential shifts (so-called ERP components) are time-locked to the stimulus onset (e.g., the presentation of a word, a sound, or an image). Each component reflects brain activation associated with one or more cognitive operations. In contrast to behavioural measures such as error rates and response times, ERPs are characterized by simultaneous multi-dimensional on line measures of polarity (negative or positive potentials), amplitude, latency, and scalp distribution. Therefore, BESS ERPs are used to distinguish and identify psychological and neural sub-processes involved in complex cognitive, motor, or perceptual tasks.
8. 20 Channel EEG Systems (Two Desktops with accessories) This instrument of EEG systems helps in recording and interpreting the electrical activity of the brain. The system helps in measuring and recording multiple cognitive tests in visual and auditory modalities. New system with high frequency range and sampling rate (512 Hz)
9. 20 Channel EEG Systems (One Laptop & One Desktop with accessories) This system is a non-invasive technique and it measures cognitive processing. New system with high frequency range and sampling rate (512 Hz). Meant for neurocognitive experiments.
10. Research Digital Polygraph (One Laptop and Two Desktop with accessories) The polygraph measures physiological responses to stress experienced by a subject during the course of an interrogation. The instrument monitors three physiological states: (1) cardiovascular responses manifested by changes in blood pressure and pulse rate; (2) galvanic skin resistance that lowers as perspiration increases; and (3) breathing patterns that respond to changes in tension. Changes in any of these patterns can be detected as the subject experiences emotional reactions.
11. Neurofeedback (Three Desktops with accessories) with sensors, 32-Channel EEG, Head Box Amplifier & Stand. Samsung Laser Jet Printer It is a QEEG based Neurofeedback system. It uses the brain activity to provide feedback to the user. It involves training mechanisms to enhance self-regulatory capacity over brain activity patterns and subsequently over brain mental states. It consists of the features to provide the stimulus in multi-modality spectrum. It is used in field of research and has significant clinical application.
